I guess it has been between 1-2 decades ago that I found that I could not support NRA because of its change in 2nd Amendment Stance. Previous this organization supported to keep and bear arms as the amendment stated and started pushing the rights of hunters to keep and bear arms because of the lefts push-back. This moved the discussion away from the real reason of the 2nd amendment and there by undermined its true purpose.
The 2nd Amendment reads "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." Read carefully! So who was the militia? The people! For what? The federal government or the state? The state! Early on in our country the people were the militia (or army) so as to keep the power in the people instead of a Federal government.
This is what our founder fathers thought about this amendment. They experienced living under opressive governments in Europe and understood it was nessary to have the means to protect their liberties from those who wish to extinguish them for their personal gain. Does this sound like the right to keep and bear arms was for hunting?
